From citrus nursery to new subdivisions
Fruitland Park predates the Civil War. It was named for the Fruitland Nurseries of Augusta, Georgia, briefly renamed Gardenia by the postal service in 1884, and restored to Fruitland Park in 1888 after years of confusion between the railroad and the post office (Wikipedia). Today it lies between Leesburg and Lady Lake in north Lake County.
The housing is overwhelmingly new. Census estimates put the median year built at 2011, with 52.8% of homes built since 2010, and 92.6% of homes are single-family detached. The population skews older, with a median age of 55.7 (Census Reporter).
