A historic town six miles north of Orlando
Eatonville was incorporated on August 15, 1887, as one of the first freedmen’s towns, self-governing all-Black municipalities, in the United States. It sits about six miles north of downtown Orlando, between Maitland and the city (Wikipedia).
Census estimates show a town of about 2,290 people whose housing is older than most of the metro: the median home was built in 1970, and half of all homes predate it. It is also a renting town. Only about a third of homes are owner-occupied, and roughly half are single-family detached, with the rest in duplexes, small apartment buildings and other forms (Census Reporter).
