The Friendly Soldier City, grown up
St. Cloud sits on the southern shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga, about 26 miles southeast of Orlando. It began as a sugarcane plantation in the 1880s, and in 1909 the land was bought for a Grand Army of the Republic veterans’ colony, which gave the city its nickname, “The Friendly Soldier City” (Wikipedia). The 2020 Census counted 58,964 residents; Census estimates for 2020–2024 put it at 65,130 (Census Reporter).

Dryer vents first
With most homes built this century and roughly seven in ten single-family detached, the most common service need is the dryer vent. Newer two-story plans often place the laundry upstairs or in the middle of the house, so the duct runs to the roof. Those runs collect lint at the top, under the cap, and they’re hard to check from the ground.

The St. Cloud Historic District covers about 84 acres of the original downtown grid, between 9th Street, Wisconsin and Ohio avenues and US 192 (City of St. Cloud). Much of the newer housing is in planned communities inside the city, such as Stevens Plantation, with Gramercy Farms, Tohoqua, Center Lake Ranch and Sunbrooke all appearing in City Council plat approvals between 2020 and 2024. Homes there are built this century, so fireplaces are mostly factory-built or gas, and the dryer vent is the system nearly every household has.
