Why the whole system gets inspected
A fireplace and its chimney fail together: water from a cracked crown rusts the damper, a blocked flue pushes smoke out of the firebox, a cracked liner lets heat reach framing that no one can see. A safety problem in one usually starts in the other. An inspection is the starting point, not the fix. Water problems go to the leak repair service, structural damage to repair for cracked or damaged masonry, and a sooty or blocked flue to flue sweeping. The order matters: water first, then masonry, then cosmetic work.
