“Much water,” and a lot of new homes
The city says its name comes from Dakota words meaning “much water,” and the Minneola tangelo is named after it (Wikipedia). The 2020 Census counted 13,843 residents; Census estimates for 2020–2024 put the population near 16,600, with a median year built of 2007 and 41.6% of homes built since 2010 (Census Reporter).
Where the dryer duct ends matters
In newer two-story plans the laundry is often upstairs or in the middle of the house, and the duct runs to the roof. Roof terminations clog at the top, where lint slows and gathers under the cap, and a cap with a screen or a stiff flap makes it worse. The Florida residential code prohibits screens on dryer terminations and requires a backdraft damper (FBC-R M1502.3).

Fireplaces in newer homes
Fireplaces in Minneola’s newer homes are mostly factory-built or gas, with a metal flue in a framed chase. The chase cover and storm collar are the usual water entry points; prefab chimney and chase repair and chase cover replacement cover the fixes. Gas fireplaces are serviced and repaired as well, while new or altered gas piping is quoted as separate, permitted work.
Minneola’s hills, new communities and the services they need
Minneola’s newer growth is in planned communities such as the Villages at Minneola Hills and Del Webb Minneola, and in subdivisions like Ardmore Reserve and Overlook at Grassy Lake. The city also includes the Sugarloaf Mountain subdivision, named for the ridge that is the highest ground on the Florida peninsula (Wikipedia). Homes on high ground like that take wind with little to slow it, and the chase and roof vent caps feel it first.
