What we see in Belle Isle
In mid-century subdivisions such as Nela Isle and Lake Conway Estates, the laundry often sits in a garage or utility room on an outside wall, so the vent is usually a short run to a wall hood. Short runs are easy to clean, but their hoods sit low, behind shrubs or near the lake side of the lot, where flaps stick and get overgrown.

Low wall hoods and outside flaps
A wall hood sits low, often behind plants, mulch or an AC unit, and its flap takes rain, sun and paint. When the flap sticks, lint packs behind it and airflow drops even if the duct is fairly clean. Roof-terminated vents are the other common layout; see cleaning a vent that exits through the roof.
Either way, the backdraft damper has to open with the airflow and close when the dryer stops. If it doesn’t, a new vent cover with a working damper is the fix.
What cleaning can and can’t fix
Cleaning removes lint and restores airflow lost to buildup. It can’t straighten a crushed duct inside a wall, reconnect a joint that has come apart in the attic, or shorten a run that was too long from the start. When the after reading stays weak, the answer is reconnecting or replacing damaged duct or dryer vent rerouting, not another cleaning next year.
A duct packed solid or lint escaping into the house calls for the heavy lint removal service; a nest or near-total blockage, for removing a blockage from the duct. If you want the whole run checked against the code without a cleaning, book inspection and airflow testing.
Keeping the vent clear between cleanings
